http://www.livingwellspendingless.com/book/ Living Well Spending Less Story Secret #13 Embracing God’s Dream for our Lives Not too long ago, I did a little fast. It was a fast from shopping for clothes, for me. Just a little spiritual exercise, purging excess from my life, prompted by Ruth Soukup’s new book, Living Well Spending Less. One of the practices was taking time off of buying clothing. Well, that’s hard for me because I like fashion. And I like trends. And I like to look cute. But, off I went on my “shopping fast.” No sooner did I get the itch to buy [ …read full story ]
I woke up in the early morning hours with my right hand completely numb. I’m talking, I couldn’t feel my hand, you guys! It was scary. I started to pray, “Lord, let the blood go back into my hand and my fingers.” I began to consider all of the reasons that I need my right hand. I need it to write. I need it to cook, clean, drive, and touch the faces of my loved ones. And I need to use it to touch people who need to be touched. I need it to reach out, laying on hands in [ …read full story ]
Many are asking, “How should we respond when a church leader falls into sin?” The body of Christ at our church has had a tough week. We have had to endure the painful fallout of a Pastor that gave in to sin. Unfortunately, we have had to live through the pain caused by a respected one letting us down. There is a reason that the Bible says that our leaders are held to the highest standard. James 3:1 states “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged [ …read full story ]
Should we share our lives with others? Relationships take work. Investment. Vulnerability. Energy. Patience. Sometimes grief, loss, or suffering. They can take the life out of us if we let them. Should we let relationships zap the life out of us? I believe that Christ’s answer would be 1000 times yes. Let me explain. 1 John 3:16 says “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” And Jesus said : “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with [ …read full story ]
How do we do ‘Real’ in our Relationships? My kitchen is messy. My cupboards are cluttered. There is laundry on the couch. The kids homework isn’t finished and they just left to go play basketball. I haven’t planned my homeschool year yet, and it started last week. I lost the remote control garage door opener to my friend’s house where I was cat-sitting, and when my husband picked them up at the airport last night, they had to come sleep over because they had no other way to get in their house! Thrilling, with a 10 month old. I fail [ …read full story ]
I headed for Starbucks in Sky Harbor before my flight to Raleigh, North Carolina. I was minding my own business (playing on my iPhone), when someone tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I knew the time. Turning around, I realized it was a familiar face, a friend from church! Instead of the time, I gave her a giant hug! She asked where I was going, and we discovered that she would be the flight attendant on my flight. After an hour delay, we boarded and got underway. I got through half of Michael Hyatt’s PLATFORM (highly recommend), and [ …read full story ]
This week I heard a sermon by John DelHousaye. He had a unique perspective on God’s possible purpose for loneliness in our lives. He shared that God sometimes takes people away from us so that we can get alone with Him and be more intimate with Him. He suggested that our solitude, or departing to have a time with God, strengthens our souls against temptation, shrinks our fleshly pride, and promotes humility. DelHousaye said that the soul grows best when the flesh is vulnerable. One way we can make our flesh vulnerable is by fasting. Sometimes we need to starve [ …read full story ]
